MISSISSIPPI BOULEVARD
CHRISTIAN CHURCH

Dear
Servant:
Our
“Faithbook” series ended on Sunday, September 4.
I asked the question on Sunday “Are you a fan or
friend of Jesus”? Jesus has many fans, but are
you His friend? Jesus is the best model of a
friend, He gave His life that we may have
eternal life. As you share, blog, surf, etc. are
you being a friend to Jesus? Remember “Faithbook”
as you share on “Facebook”
so that someone will see the Christ in
you.
Please
take a few minutes and complete our short
on-line N3
Conference survey. The survey is anonymous
and your feedback will help us plan and improve
our N3 Conference 2012. Click here to complete our on-line
N3 Conference survey. We have a few
photos already placed on our Facebook wall and
we will display more within the next couple of
days. Click here to view photos of our
conference.
Let’s
continue to work on our “Win One in
One, One”. If you invited someone to our N3
Conference, thank you. Keep pressing to bring
someone to Christ, throw out the line until our
basket is full.
It’s
time to celebrate 90 years of Word, Worship and
Work! Our
90th Anniversary Celebration will
kick off on Saturday, November 5 with a
congregation and community carnival filled with
fun, food, and fellowship, followed by a
Black-Tie Gala on Friday, November 11 and
concluding on November 13 with singing,
preaching and praising God. Our preacher will be
the Rev. Dr. Alvin O. Jackson. We are inviting
all our former members and friends to come and
be a part of this celebration. Start getting
ready for a great time as THE BLVD celebrates
its legacy of giving to the community and to
each other.
As
we continue to move from Mediocrity to Greatness
for God, remember our heavenly role model,
Jesus. As the church strives to move, our
individual relationships with God should improve
as well. Join us every Wednesday in September
for an empowering and enlightening series that
will address areas in our lives that will help
us to improve. Don’t miss FamiLIES
Season II. Let’s
make this move!
This
past Tuesday, we held a forum on the social
impact of the movie “The Help”. Panel members
consisted of Former Memphis City Councilwoman
Tajuan Stout
Mitchell, “The Help” Movie Videographer Joshua
Miller, Commercial Appeal Movie Reviewer John
Beifuss, and “The Help” Actress Florence Roach.
The forum was opened with brief remarks by each
panelist and then attendees gave their personal
remarks or asked the panelists questions.
Expressions and remarks led me to believe that
this forum was a great help to some who needed
to share after seeing a movie that brought back
memories as far back as 50 years ago. “The Help”
has been #1 at the box office for three weeks, a
movie that will take you back but also will make
you thankful for the progress made; this was
also a remark by one of our attendees. Click here to see a video clip and
read the story on Channel 3 News
website.
This
Sunday, September 11, is the 10 year
anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. We will honor
persons who lost their lives and their families
at both campuses. Let us pray for those
individuals personally affected by this vast
tragedy.
Our
new sermon series “Gracism” will start this
Sunday. My sermon topic will be “The Help” with
the scripture coming from Psalm 121. Looking
forward to seeing you.
In
His Amazing
Grace ,

MONEY
MATTERS
It’s
become an all-too-familiar headline – lay-offs and furloughs,
falling housing prices and rising consumer debt, declining retail
sales and increasing costs of living. Money – and the lack of it –
is a source of stress and frustration. And while people the world
over are working to stem the global financial situation we’re in,
folks at home are trying to gain some control over their own
financial situations, too. The Bible teaches us that “the people
perish because of a lack of knowledge.” Practicing positive, tried
and true money management techniques – and learning how to recognize
and avoid some “ripped from the headlines” consumer scams and
rip-offs – can help you weather tough economic times. Begin today to
educate yourself and your family about financial matters. The
Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection
agency, created the website (Money Matters) to help you tackle some
money issues head-on. Visit
their website to learn more about managing your money
and various scams designed to separate you from your
money. |
