MISSISSIPPI BOULEVARD CHRISTIAN CHURCH |

Dear Servant:
February is a time of
celebration! On Sunday,
February 1, 2009, we will kick off Black History month with a
powerful worship service. Be in the house; be
on time, as our phenomenal Sanctuary Choir begins our service
with a processional along with a guest soloist and our amazing
dance and drama ministries. During this month, we will reflect
on how far God has brought us and recognize the
accomplishments of our people. Let’s dress in African attire. God
has been good to us and He has allowed us to see fruits of our
ancestors, I will be looking for you to be in the house, and
don’t forget to invite your relatives, friends, neighbors and
coworkers to share in our month of
celebration.
CHURCH-WIDE
BIBLE STUDY
Our
Wednesday Night
Worship continues in February with my new teaching series:
"Sex and the
City." Join me each Wednesday as we teach relevant and
practical principles about our sexuality and the myths that
the secular society has created regarding it. God is concerned
with our spirits and our bodies, come and see what the Bible
says about them both!
We had great attendance at our Church
Wide Bible Study classes on Sundays and Wednesdays. Click here to view some of our
photos.
We completed our last lesson of our
Extreme Makeover series on Wednesday evening. I believe that
our Extreme Makeover Church Wide Bible Study and my sermons on
Friendships are changing our congregation to be more
welcoming, encouraging, and more of a family. I want you to continue your path to
spiritual transformation by participating in a weekly regimen
of focused and planned Bible Study. If you are not in a
Bible Study, click here for a list of our Christian Education
opportunities. If you have participated in the
Church-Wide Bible Study classes, blog me at www.theblvdblog.org and share
your experience; I am waiting to hear from
you.
UMOJA
2009
Get ready to
experience Umoja 2009. It’s new this year, it’s refreshing
with new scenes, new dances, new music, over 400 participants
and much, much more. Pick up and pass out
Umoja playbills to your family, friends, co-workers and
neighbors letting them know that Umoja is celebrating its
tenth year and they don’t want to miss it. It’s a
Broadway-like production that’s all the way live. Umoja
(Swahili for unity, pronounced “oo-moh–jah”) will take you on
a powerful journey where you will i-m-a-g-i-n-e the
possibilities. Join me on March 13th at
7:30PM, March
14th at 6:00PM, or Sunday March
15th at 4:00, PM. Tickets are on sale at the church
Monday through Thursday, from 8:30AM to 8:30PM; and Saturdays
from 9:00AM to 3:30PM. Tickets are $10.00 each for a limited time. This
production will bring you to laughter, tears and
possibly self-examination of where you are today and what you
can do tomorrow. Get your ticket
today.
“SAY WHAT YOU NEED TO
SAY”
Next Sunday, I will start
a new series, “Say What You Need To
Say”. I will be expanding on how we can be in right
relationship with God so that we can truly be family to others
even if they are not family to us, in turn making our
relationships whole.
PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION PHOTOS &
SHORT STORIES
We plan to send out a special eNews
that will contain photos and stories from members who attended
the Presidential Inauguration in DC last week. Please drop off a CD/disk with
your Presidential Inauguration digital photos and/or short
stories (Microsoft Word document preferred) by the
Church’s Guest Services/Security Desk no later than Wednesday,
February 4th at
8:00PM.
There’s
a lot going on at THE BLVD, you don’t want to miss. Blog me at www.theblvdblog.org and share
your thoughts. I am looking
forward to reading your blog. See you on
Sunday.

CHRISTIAN
HEALTH ORGANIZATION ANNOUNCES NATIONAL “WEAR RED”
DAY
Friday,
February 6, 2009 is a day when Americans nationwide will wear
red to show their support for women's Heart disease awareness.
Heart disease
is the #1 killer of women. In fact, one in
four women die of heart disease, but heart disease can also
lead to disability and a significantly decreased quality of
life. Now is the
time to make wise choices; choose exercise over sitting, baked
over fried foods, limit salt and take meds as prescribed. The
Christian Health Organization (CHO) encourages everyone to
unite in this life-saving awareness movement
by showing off a favorite red dress, shirt, or tie, or red
dress pin. For more information, visit the National Heart,
Lung and Blood Institute web
site.
THE HEART TRUTH The
Heart Truth
is that heart disease is the #1 killer of American women. In
fact, one in four women die of heart disease, but heart
disease can also lead to disability and a significantly
decreased quality of life. Unfortunately, most women don't
know The Heart Truth. Although significant progress has
been made increasing awareness among women from 34 percent in
2000 to 57 percent in 2006, most women fail to make the
connection between risk factors and their personal risk of
developing heart disease. The Heart Truth is that women
don't take their risk of heart disease seriously or
personally. Women often fail to make the connection between
risk factors, such as high blood pressure and high
cholesterol, and their own chance of developing heart disease.
Now is the
time to make wise choices; exercise over sitting, choose baked
over fried foods, limit salt and take meds as prescribed. The
CHO encourages everyone to unite in this
life-saving awareness movement by showing off a favorite red
dress, shirt, or tie, or red dress pin. For more information, visit the National Heart,
Lung and Blood Institute web
site.
