MISSISSIPPI BOULEVARD CHRISTIAN CHURCH

Dear Fellow Servant,

In just a few days, we will say goodbye to the year that was and in exchange say hello to the hope of the year to come.  What does that mean to you?  Often we make lists and resolutions that sit lifeless until the next time we remember to revisit the words written on paper.  My question is what does it really mean to you if you don’t move the words from paper to action? Next Sunday, at THE BLVD we will engage in an exercise that involves writing the vision for the year and not only making it plain but giving it life.  Please come January 3 to take part in this new session.

Although my new sermon series “God’s Game Plan” does not officially start until Sunday January 10, we will kick off the year with a sort of pre-season sermon Jan 3 called “Get Your Mind In The Game”.  I am excited about what God will bring to this message and I hope you are ready to cheer on the Word!

Before Sunday however there is New Year’s Eve.  Just in case you have not heard, THE BLVD will host worship service in both our Midtown location and our East location at 7pm.  If you have ever wanted help with getting rid of negativity in your life I encourage you to attend worship services in one of our two locations.

We still want to know what you think about Holidays at THE BLVD 2009.  If you haven’t yet completed the Christmas concert survey please take a moment to do so.  The survey will be available online until midnight on December 31.  Click here to go to our brief survey and let us know what you think.

Finally, the church offices will be closed Friday, January 1 for the New Year’s Day holiday.  It is our hope that the staff will spend time with their friends and families honoring relationships.  In fact, 2010 is dedicated to relationships of all kinds.  It is my hope that this new year brings new opportunities to fix broken ones, rekindle dimming ones, start new ones and enhance existing ones.

Be safe everyone!  See you Thursday and Sunday.

ENTER THE STORY IN 2010

THE BLVD Family is invited to “Enter the Story” by answering these questions: “How would you change the world if only you could?”  “How do you plan to make a difference in 2010?”  “How will you encourage yourself to reach beyond The Story?”  “How will you make the Advent Conspiracy a lifestyle change instead of a seasonal event?  Answer these questions, in a letter to yourself explaining your  plan to “Enter the Story” in 2010, bring the letter to church in a self addressed envelope stamped with a “Forever” postage stamp and place it in basket at the end of service. Your letter will be mailed to you in 2010 for self evaluation.  Join us as we make a difference, give the Gift of Hope and “Enter the Story.” For additional information about this project, contact Veda Bankhead.

SISTERS-IN-MOTION REGGAE MARATHON

On December 3rd, an entourage of 72 people traveled to Jamaica for fun, sun, and running and/or walking in the 9th Annual Reggae Marathon in Negril. The races took place on Saturday, December

5th, beginning at 5:15am, local time. Of the 72 travelers, 58 competed in AND finished one of two races—the half-marathon (13.1 miles) or the 10K (6.2 miles).  Included in the 58 race participants were 28 MBCC members: Tara Alexander, *LaVerne Bobo, *JoAnn Boyd, Delois Brown, Deloris Burrow, Kimberly Collins, Denise Dickerson, Kimberly Gibson, Edith Kelly-Green, Dee Griffin, Shirley Harris, Diann Kelly, Bridget Lee, *April Thompson-Larsha, *Jacqueline Payne, Mildred Saulsberry, Linda Sessoms, Trudy Tyler, *Valencia Watson, Carvetta Williams and *Tammy Young, all of which completed the half-marathon.  Other runners and/or walkers are: *Veda Bankhead, *Christy Clark, *Monice Hagler, *Marilyn Peete-Hilliard, *Rosalyn Hurt, Angela Grant-Jones and Charles Kelly, all of which completed the 10K. Sisters-In-Motion has competed in many races in its 3-year existence, but this trip marks our first international racing venture. There were over 1,000 participants coming from 18 different countries. For many in our group, it was their first international trip and the first time visiting a third world country. They were exposed to the local culture, church service and had a first hand observation of the poverty that exists in many third world countries. From these observations, they all agreed that America is truly blessed and left with a more profound appreciation of our country and all that it offers. Click here to view race photos.

It was a wonderful weekend getaway full of fellowship, fun, sun, good food, beautiful beach, white sand, water activities and relaxation. They are looking forward to their next running/walking adventure, either nationally or internationally.
