MISSISSIPPI BOULEVARD CHRISTIAN CHURCH

Dear Fellow Servant,

It’s official. Summer is here.  Daily temps are at dangerous levels. I cannot stress enough the need to be careful outside this summer. Keep your eyes on the elderly, the children and the pets. It’s okay to be outside but take breaks, stay hydrated and protect your skin.

Also with summer comes what many call the Summer Slump. This is the time traditionally when churches experience low attendance and in essence low giving. Many churches cringe at the thought and see nothing but trouble. I, on the other hand, believe that there are positives to be gained from this season.

Yes, summer is the time that families take vacations and travel. This is good. It is wonderful for families to connect with each other and I say if you have the opportunity to spend quality time with your family on a vacation to places that will elevate their minds and make bonding memories for you, do it. However, I encourage you to remember the mission of the church and the importance of your generosity to the church even in your absence.

There are two easy options for giving readily available to you that do not require your being physically present. They are:

  1. Online Giving – if you have access to a computer you can give to the church. Simply go to the website, click on the “donate” tab and follow the instructions.
  2. Join the ADP program. This program does not require any interruption to your vacation because you are automatically signed up to give on a pre-determine schedule. Like a house payment or insurance payment, you can sign up to have your tithes and offerings deducted from your account leaving you free from worrying. Sign up for ADP this Sunday at both locations or you may contact Bettye Boone for more information. That’s it. No check writing, no stamps and no forgetting.

Another positive of summer is the fact that during the summer many of your friends and family live by a more relaxed schedule. This means it is the perfect opportunity to invite them to come and worship with you at THE BLVD. Take this opportunity to tell them about THE BLVD East as an 8:30am Sunday morning option.

Summer is a great time to get involved with community service and mission work. On that note I am asking you to pray traveling mercies for some of our women who made the trek to North Carolina for the DOC’s Women’s Quadrennial. There they will fellowship with thousands of women from around the world and share mission materials and donations with others.

Finally, I want to encourage you to make a special effort to join us on July 4 when we kick of our Sizzling Summer Sermon Series, Seven Deadly Sins: I WANT IT ALL! Whether this is something you personally deal with or something you can help someone around you conquer, come and get what you need to be equipped to fight the sins that corrupt us and separate us from the freedoms we have been given as followers of Christ. Independence begins July 4th.

I look forward to seeing you this Sunday!
