THE SIX MARKS OF DISCIPLESHIP: WHERE ARE
YOU?
How are things going in your practice of the marks of
discipleship? Are you aware of the six marks and what they
are? Do you know why THE BLVD has committed to a Six month
Spiritual Fitness Challenge as we learn more about these
spiritual benchmarks?
We at THE BLVD first read about the Six Marks of
Discipleship (daily prayer, weekly worship, Bible reading,
Christian service, relationships that encourage spiritual
growth, and giving in the spirit of generosity), in Michael
Foss’ book, Power
Surge. He uses Bible passages and real-life stories from
his experiences as a Pastor to describe how the Six Marks can
bring you closer to God. One hundred fifty people have
committed to increase their faith by taking the Six Marks of
Discipleship Challenge through November 16, 2008. For more
information contact PastorVirzola

IT’S TIME
FOLKS, TO SAVE, SAVE, SAVE
As you know our economy is going through tremendous
change. We are experiencing high unemployment, higher gas,
food, and energy prices coupled with a high percentage of
personal and business bankruptcies’ due to debt. Whether your
debt is due to poor decisions concerning credit cards, a
medical emergency, unemployment over a period of time, or
other financial crises, it is now time for us to begin to
determine how we can pay off our debts and save for
emergencies and for our future. Beginning this week and over
the next few weeks, we will begin to provide tidbits of
information to help you review your own financial situation so
you can make good decisions about debt management and savings.
This first article is a New Release from the American
Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) reminding
Americans to save their Economic Stimulus check to compound
the benefit for the future. Go to http://mbccmemphis.org/enews/CPAs_Save.pdf for greater detail. If the nation’s organization of
CPA’s are telling us to save our economic stimulus check to
compound the benefit, it is worth considering. Next week, we
will take a look at financial goal setting and planning. | |

DO YOU HAVE A SCHNUCKS’ OR
KROGER RELOADABLE CARD? IS YOUR CURRENT CARD WORKING? DO YOU
NEED ANOTHER CARD? Come to the
Schnucks’/Kroger table on Sunday to get a new card so you can
help us raise funds to support our children and youth
ministries. If you are going to shop at
|
|
one of these stores anyway,
why not help your church receive a 5% rebate on what you load
on your card. So, join others in the congregation who are
helping to raise funds for our children and youth
ministries.

GUESS WHAT!!! WE ARE ALMOST THERE –
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Because of your “SERVANT’S
HEART”, we are only $1100 from meeting our $20,000 SunTrust
Challenge. To date, we have raised $18,900 dollars for our
children and youth renovation projects. Thank you so very much
for your diligence, caring and sacrifice. Next to St.
Jude
Hospital
, THE BLVD has
|
|
received the most funds from the
SunTrust “My Cause” promotion than any other non-profit
organization in the city. This is a great honor. Only with
your cooperation and caring could this be done. BUT, WE ARE
NOT THERE YET. We are looking for just 11 members or friends
of members to help us accomplish our goal, and one
additional person to help us exceed our goal. So ask your
friend, your next door neighbor, one of your relatives, anyone
you know to help THE BLVD meet its goal. The process is simple
but the benefits will have a lasting impact on our children
and youth ministry programs. You (or your friend or family
member) only need to do the
following:
- Go to any SunTrust
bank (or sign-up at the church each Sunday) by
September 30, 2008 and open a personal or business
checking account. Deposit $25 into this account.
- Accept the Visa Check (Debit) card
when you sign-up and use it to make a purchase by November
15, 2008 – no minimum purchase amount
required.
- After your purchase, call
866.266.2802 or go online at www.suntrust.com/mycause then click “My Cause
Redemption” to make your $100 redemption to MBCC by
November 15, 2008.
Members, friends, clergy, and business
owners - WE CAN DO THIS because “everything works together for GOOD for
those who love the Lord and are called according to his great
purpose.” SO, HELP US MAKE THIS
HAPPEN! | |
