MISSISSIPPI BOULEVARD CHRISTIAN CHURCH |
| |
|
Dear
Servant:
As we approach the Holiday Season, let
us pray for one another and share our blessings. We have an
opportunity to start this season of sharing by donating blood
this Sunday during Sickle Cell Disease
Awareness Sunday.
Our blood
drive will be held in the Fellowship Hall from 8:00AM to
2:00PM and members are asked to donate blood in support of
this debilitating, inherited blood disorder that affects 1 out
of every 400 African Americans. African Americans use 65% of
donated blood, but donate only 15% of the blood. Blood
transfusions are the life line for Sickle Cell
patients.
Proceeds from our Christmas Concert
will support Sickle Cell Disease organizations. We have
selected four organizations to support, Life Blood, Methodist
24-Hour Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center, Diggs-Kraus Sickle
Cell Treatment and Social Services Foundation and Urevbu
Foundation. Each organization is making significant strides in
their area of emphasis with some of their programs having
national and international
impact.
On Sunday, each organization will be
available to share with you their programs and their needs. We
will also begin a “silent auction” of an art piece in which
proceeds will benefit these foundations. I ask you to take the
time to visit with each organization and to make sure you
donate blood to Life Blood because it makes a difference in
the life of Sickle Cell patients. Click here for more
information about Sickle Cell Disease and the foundations we are
supporting.
FREE HEALTH SCREENING AT THE
BLVD
Perhaps you have already heard about
the Walgreen’s Health Tour bus. If not, the Christian Health
Organization (CHO) is pleased to announce that the bus will
stop at THE BLVD on Sunday, December 7th from
8:00AM – 3:00PM. In an effort to promote better health in
urban communities across the country, The National Urban League
and Walgreen's Take Care Health Tour Bus will visit 22
urban communities across the country as part of an 11-month
mobile health campaign.
The bus will provide six free health
screenings to
anyone who participates. All services take place inside
the customized vehicle; include screenings for blood pressure,
bone density, glucose levels, cholesterol levels, waist
circumference and body mass index. Please share this
information with your friends, neighbors and coworkers.
information or
flyers are available in our Church Information Center
(CIC).
“DECISION 2008: IN ______ WE
TRUST”
There are
two more Sundays remaining for this sermon series – “Decision 2008: In ___
(you
fill in the blank)
We Trust”. It is very
important that we know, that we know, "In
We
Trust”. Do not miss this Sunday, as we gather to hear what
God has to say. Do not be
discouraged by what is happening in the world, but be
encouraged because you know that God will take care of you.
Remember, we can make it with God’s help, so consult Him in
every situation. God loves us and is ever faithful. I continue
to encourage you to live by God’s economy
rather than the
world’s economy. If you have not been living by God’s
economy, I believe if you make a decision to do so (pay God 10% in tithes, pay yourself 10%
for saving and investing, and live off the remaining 80%),
you will have a testimony of how good God is. See you
on Sunday.
MIDWEEK
SERVICES
Have
you noticed that the holidays are the most stressful time of
year? Diminishing resources, minimal savings, and unreasonable
gift-giving expectations are a recipe for family disaster. The
grief of deceased family and friends, and the inexpressible
loneliness of this season combined with miscommunication or no
communication screams meltdown! Join us for our November
Wednesday Night Worship series held each Wednesday at 7:00PM
entitled, "The Family that
Preys Prays Together" as we journey through
various scenes from Tyler Perry's movie, "The Family that
Preys". We will discover life-giving principles for healthy
family and extended family relationships that will safeguard
us against relationship disaster and catastrophe in this
season. The final months of the year can be the most rewarding
for our relationships if we exercise Kingdom principles
offered in Wednesday Night Worship series. There will no mid-week service on
November 26, 2008.
Our next midweek service will be December
3rd, at 7:00PM in the MLK Seminar Room.

SICKLE CELL
DISEASE AWARENESS: BLOOD
DRIVE
As you are aware, we have selected Sickle Cell Disease
Awareness as our December 14th Christmas Concert’s
charitable cause. Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited blood
disorder that primarily affects African-Americans. In fact, 8% of the
African-American population carries the sickle cell gene with
1 in 400 incidence of sickle cell anemia occurring at
birth. Many people
are not aware that they carry the trait and without proper
testing and education may pass this trait or the disease on to
their children. This is a disease that
affects US.
November 23rd is Sickle Cell Awareness
Sunday. In an
effort to educate our congregation and support the foundations
working in the area of Sickle Cell Awareness, we are asking
members of our congregation to come prepared to participate in
the Sickle Cell Awareness Blood
Drive from 8:00AM -
2:00PM in the Fellowship Hall. Pre-registration is
not required. Additional information about the disease
will be made available. One of the best ways to
share our faith is to give to others. For additional
information about Sickle Cell Awareness Sunday and how you can
help, please email Bettye Boone or call 901.272.5650.

percent of your total grocery bill. I know it takes a
few minutes to load your card, but please consider the
investment in our children and youth. If you have
lost your card or never had one, come by the
Kroger/Schnucks’ table located near the bookstore to get
