MISSISSIPPI BOULEVARD CHRISTIAN CHURCH

Dear Fellow Servant,

This week I prepared another eNews video message for you. Please click on my image below to watch my eNews video message, then click “Watch Video” tab next to my photo on our website.

As parents sometimes we forget how quickly our children grow from toddlers to teens and eventually into adulthood.  I can remember when my own daughter was born and now we are leaving her to spend several weeks in Europe without us.  As parents, Joyce and I have to accept that growth is inevitable.  However, we also have to take the responsibility of providing her with the tools she needs to be successful.  These tools are not only found in our words of wisdom on what to do and say, they are also in our actions; in what we do and say. The same rules apply when we speak of our spiritual children.

We, as a body of Christ, have a responsibility to the children and youth of THE BLVD.  We say we believe in them and support their effort but how do we show it? I was personally touched by the picture of the little girl holding a sign that reads “If you believe in me…invest in me”.  It is true.  Anything we believe in gets our time, talent and treasure because we know that our giving yields a greater reward.

Give your time through volunteerism.  I am sure Ministers Sharkey, Watson and Weston would appreciate help with the Children and Youth Renovation Project.  It may seem like a small gift but to the ministry it could be a huge help.  Perhaps you have some expertise or access to items that will cut costs as we move forward with the project.  That is offering your talent.  And we all know that treasure (financial support) is essential.

I am not insensitive to the rough economic times that are upon us. I realize many of us are in a situation that may be less conducive to giving treasure.  However, for less than the cost of a small latte per day you could be a $500 giver by the end of the year.  In addition there is always the “Believe In Me Shopping Network” Gift Registry that contains the children and youth wish list.  Connect with others in your ministry, your family or friends and as a team purchase an item on the registry.  Remember, purchasing an item from the registry is just like giving cash.  Last week we highlighted the Nintendo Wii Gaming System.  We are still waiting for the angel who will bless us with this gift so we will again make it our item of the week.  The item number is Item# CYR020.  Click here for more information to view and purchase registry items.

Don’t forget Monday, May 25 is Memorial Day.  THE BLVD offices will be closed to all activities, meetings and classes for the day.  The offices will reopen Tuesday, May 26.  And then the month will be almost over which means we will be bringing our Sons and Daughters home for the Family Reunion each Wednesday night in June.  Plan ahead and join us each Wednesday night for a powerful message from some truly anointed leaders who once called THE BLVD home.  Watch your bulletins and announcements for more information coming soon.

I enjoy connecting with you weekly via the eNews.  I welcome your feedback, comments and suggestions anytime at http://theblvdblog.org.

I hope you will take some time over the holiday to enjoy your family, give some thought to our youth and children, and most of all to thank God for another day.

WOMEN’S MINISTRY KICK-OFF SUCCESSFUL

The Women's Ministry Kick-Off on April 25th was a tremendous success! One of the many highlights was the unveiling of our new identity. With II Corinthians 4:7 as our guiding scripture, we are now known as the Chosen Vessels Women's Ministry; "for we have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us." II Corinthians 4:7. Over 100 women attended the kickoff; more than 70 white bath towels were presented to the baptismal ministry; over 50 women signed up to attend the Embracing Your Strengths Bible Study which began on Wednesday, May 6th; and several women joined our circles/small groups. If you missed the kick off you can still get involved. Stop by the CIC to pick up a copy of the May/June calendar of activities. For more information about the Women’s Ministry, email us.

MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

Attention all Parents of Middle School and High School Students: This summer the Middle School and High School ministries are offering a Leadership Institute that will run from June 1 – July 30. The Leadership Institute will offer training on various principles of leadership, project management skills, and creative arts. There is a one time $25.00 registration fee per teen which covers the entire session and two meals per day. If you are interested please visit the High School Ministry website or contact Pastor Sharkey or Pastor Weston to obtain a registration packet. The deadline for registration is May 24th. Participants will be accepted on a first come first served basis and there is a 50 student capacity for each session.

CHILDREN AND MIDDLE SCHOOL RENOVATION RELOCATION

Due to the current renovation project in the Discipletown area, a list of temporary classroom sites has been compiled. Click here for dates and classroom assignments.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH RENOVATION PROJECT

MBCC Children and Youth say “thank you” to everyone who has given to their renovation project. If you have not made a pledge or given to the project, you can still do so through December 2009. You can purchase an item through the Gift Registry, make a cash donation or make a pledge. Not sure how to make a pledge and stay within your budget? Well, an “example” would be pledging today (May 24th) $465 and then paying $15 each Sunday for the next 31 Sundays to pay off your pledge. In these tough economic times, giving a little over an extended period of time can really help you stay on track while supporting this project. If you are interested in pledging, please write PLEDGE on the special Children and Youth envelope and place it in the offering tray or you can use the same envelope and place your pledge in the offering slot located in the Montgomery lobby. Again, thank you for your support!

NURSERY PARENTS…WE NEED YOU!

To ensure that our Pee Wee Disciples are safe and that the nursery is in compliance with the State of Tennessee ’s adult to child ratio, we are in desperate need of parental volunteers. We are asking that each parent volunteer at least one Sunday a quarter. Please contact Pastor Weston or Annette Bowen or call 901.272.5662 to sign up!

CHILDREN AND MIDDLE SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

The Children and Middle School ministries are offering some very exciting and innovative activities! Please click here to get a list of all activities.
