Dear
Fellow Servant,
It
is always amazing to see how God moves and when He moves. Last Sunday at THE
BLVD Midtown, we experienced an amazing move of God as He
touched the hearts of His people to give to the Haiti Relief
Effort following the emotionally charged and powerful
testimony of our own Elder Debbie DeWitt who was in Haiti when
the earthquake hit.
By the grace of God the entire mission team she was
with came out of the experience unharmed. Even in safety as they
landed on American soil, their hearts remained with the people
of Haiti. The
mission team expressed compassion for those who lived through
the tragedy those who are mourning the loss of loved ones, and
a nation left without basic needs to survive. During worship service
Sunday, we raised more than $22,000.00 for Haitian
relief. Because
of your generous donation, people in Haiti will receive much
needed care through our Disciples of Christ Week of Compassion
organization.
Thank you for your love and
kindness.
Last
week, we also experienced a successful launch of our new radio
program on 95.7 Hallelujah FM. We air each Wednesday
evening from 6pm until 6:15pm. It’s called 15 Minutes of Faith with
Dr. Frank Anthony Thomas. If you heard it last
week, send me an email at pastor@theblvd.org and let
me know what you think.
Perhaps you can listen on the way to Bible Study on
Wednesdays. Click on this link to hear the
broadcast. We are just
kicking off our new Wednesday night Bible Study series called
Fireproof Your
Life. In
times like these when the economy is on a rollercoaster,
personal lives are tested, and we are consumed in things not
worthy of our attention, it is good to know biblically how to
fireproof your own life to save yourself from burnout. It’s a wonderful
series. Join us
at THE BLVD Midtown on Wednesdays at
7pm.
Wednesday,
February 10, we will interrupt the series for a very special
event. World
renowned poet, author and activist, Nikki Giovanni will be
speaking at the Barbara A. Holmes Lectures here at THE
BLVD. The event
is free to the public so please come out and bring the
family.
Preliminary events begin at 6:30
p.m.
I
also want to take a moment and congratulate our Children and
Youth program leaders for receiving the Memphis Cares Imani
Mentoring Award at the National Civil Rights Museum on
Saturday, January 16.
The award recognized both our Rites of Passage program
and our Summer Leadership Institute. I am so proud of the
accomplishments of our Youth and Children’s ministry.
Finally,
I am sending a special “thank you” to all who have been
attending on Sunday during our God’s Game Plan series. It is great to look
out and see the team spirit in the sanctuary. If your team is no
longer playing…it’s OK.
Wear your jersey proudly. My team never made the
playoffs but there is always next year. This Sunday we will
cover Passing on
Wisdom.
Remember,
great things are happening at THE BLVD! Tell
somebody.
