Dear Servant:
|
SUPER
SUNDAY
|

|
On
Sunday, February 22, we celebrate “Super Sunday”;
a celebration of our children and youth ministries and
the start of our long-awaited renovation of our children
and youth ministry areas. We will also install
Neko Sharkey as our new Youth Ministry Director and NaKeesha
(Keesha) Weston as
our new Children’s and Middle School Ministry
Director.
THE TIME IS NOW for us to
make the sacrifice so that our next generation of
leaders will have the tools and space they need to
learn and grow.
| |
|
Using
the backdrop “Believe in Me,” let’s all demonstrate to
our children and youth that we indeed believe in them
and their future.
Beginning this Sunday we are asking all adult
members to “believe” in our children by pledging and
giving to support the Children and Youth Renovation
Project.
|
|
The
project total cost is $230,000. To date, we have raised
$30,000 toward the project and need to raise $200,000 in
pledges and contributions to complete the project. To begin
construction in March 2009, we need “YOU” to give
at least $85,000 in “committed” pledges and
contributions. After we get one-half of the funding to
begin, we will need to have the remaining $115,000 to
finish the project.
|
|
Completing
this project on time will require prayer and sacrifice.
Beginning this Sunday, we need you to come prepared to
give your sacrificial support to the project. You can support the
project by pledging, making a cash contribution during
the “special” offering or purchasing an item from the
gift registry (click here for more
information). Those members
who sacrifice at least $100 in cash or in gift value
will have their name included on the Children and Youth
temporary “Wall of Support” board.
|
|
Information
tables will be located in both lobbies after service to
fully explain what you can do to support this project
and the various giving levels. So come prepared
to make the sacrifice to ensure our children’s
future.

“SAY WHAT YOU NEED TO
SAY”
This
Sunday, I will be targeting my sermon series to women. “Say
What You Need to Say” will teach you how to be in right
relationship with God so that we can truly be family to others
even if they are not family to you. This, in turn, helps make
our relationships whole. Don’t forget to invite your
relatives, friends, neighbors and co-workers to share in this
journey. I’ll be looking for you.

CHURCH-WIDE
BIBLE STUDY

Our
Wednesday Night
Worship continues in February with a new teaching series:
"Sex and the
City." Join me and Pastor Janae Pitts each Wednesday as we
teach relevant and practical principles about our sexuality
and the myths that the secular society has created regarding
it. God is concerned with our spirits and our bodies, come and
see what the Bible says about them both! If you are not in a
Bible Study, click here for a list of our Christian Education
opportunities.

church to learn more about this world-changing ministry. You
can make a difference in another person's life and watch God

PREPARING FOR LENT
The Lenten
Season (February 25 – April 12) is upon us, and it is time to
prepare for the transformation God has in store for us this
year. Getting
ready for Lent involves thinking, praying, and setting the
stage for the changes that we hope to make in our lives. Just imagine how God
is going to transform our lives, by giving us greater freedom,
greater joy, and a deeper desire for love and service. If you have a
spouse, children, close friends, or distant e-mail companions,
you can begin now to talk about how you will support each
other throughout the Lenten journey. "What are we going
to eat?" We
may want to intentionally eat only
one meaningful and symbolic meal on Ash Wednesday (February
25th). For additional information about the Lenten
journey, please pick up a copy of the weekly Lenten Guide, “Journey with Jesus”
from the bookstore on beginning Wednesday, February
25th.
You may also contact Pastor Virzola
Law at law.virzola@theblvd.org or
901.272.5603.
"GOD IS ABLE" BY LEO
DAVIS

release “God Is Able” is available in the bookstore
immediately following our worship services on Wednesdays and

THE
HEART TRUTH
The
Heart Truth
is that heart disease is the #1 killer of American women. In
fact, one in four women die of heart disease, but heart
disease can also lead to disability and a significantly
decreased quality of life. Unfortunately, most women don't
know The Heart Truth. Although significant progress has
been made increasing awareness among women from 34% in 2000 to
57% in 2006, most women fail to make the connection between
risk factors and their personal risk of developing heart
disease. The Heart Truth is that women don't take their
risk of heart disease seriously or personally. Women often
fail to make the connection between risk factors, such as high
blood pressure and high cholesterol, and their own chance of
developing heart disease. Now is the
time to make wise choices; exercise over sitting, choose baked
over fried foods, limit salt and take meds as prescribed. The
CHO encourages everyone to unite in this life-saving
awareness movement by showing off a favorite red dress, shirt,
or tie, or red dress pin. For more information, visit the National Heart,
Lung and Blood Institute web site.
