Dear Fellow Servants,

Sunday, we’ll continue our series on the SIX MARKS OF DISCIPLESHIP with a focus on “Service”.  If you’re looking for a way to put your Six Marks of Discipleship into action, begin with one of the upcoming Servant Projects listed in our below in our “News & Events” section.

Casual Sundays are back at THE BLVD for the months of July and August! We want you to be as comfortable as possible so that you are free to worship and give God praise. Check back in next week’s eNews for details.

Did you attend this year’s Financial Freedom Conference?  Many people expressed how blessed they were to have attended the conference this year. My sincere thanks and appreciation to our volunteers, speakers, vendors, the planning team and you for making the conference a huge success!

SUPER SUMMER SLAM: GETTING BACK TO THE BASICS. This four-week series (June 4 – 25) offers practical preaching and teaching on how to live the Christian life in the midst of life's pressure situations.

Featuring anointed messages by Pastor Christopher M. Jones, Pastor Janae Pitts, Dr. Eugene Gibson and Minister Debra Reid.  Come and experience an amazing time with heart-felt praise and worship, creative exercises and powerful pastoral teaching to strengthen your relationship with God and others every Wednesday at 7 p.m. Limited child care available.

July will be our Midweek Worship Summer Sabbath, a time of rest and reflection. I encourage you to practice your Six Marks of Discipleship following the scriptures and meditations as they are listed on our website. In August, we will be on fire for the Lord as we come back together for Midweek Services, Wednesdays at 7PM where we will worship and praise God with fire like Jeremiah shut up in our bones.

We invite you to join us for an incredible time in God’s house each Sunday at 10 a.m. and each Wednesday at 7 p.m. There will be heart-felt worship, inspirational teaching, and a warm and welcoming connection with our church family. God delights in you and has an incredible plan for your life…Come discover it at THE BLVD!

Mark you calendars for important activities and service opportunities to follow!  Please forward our eNews to your family and friends so that they are aware of what’s happening at THE BLVD.  Also, invite them to spend Sunday with you in worship service.

With a Servant’s Heart,

Pastor Frank

MIDWEEK WORSHIP SUMMER SABBATH

Midweek Services will be suspended for the month of July in honor of the seventh month Sabbath of rest and reflection.  All church members are encouraged to practice our Six Marks of Discipleship and follow the scriptures and meditations as they are listed on our website. For more information, contact PastorChristopher Michael Jones at jones.christopher@theblvd.org or 901.272.5604.

THE SIX MARKS OF DISCIPLESHIP: WHERE ARE YOU?

How are things going in your practice of the marks of discipleship? Are you aware of the six marks and what they are? Do you know why The BLVD has committed to a Six month Spiritual Fitness Challenge as we learn more about these spiritual benchmarks?

We at THE BLVD first read about the Six Marks of Discipleship (daily prayer, weekly worship, Bible reading, Christian service, relationships that encourage spiritual growth, and giving in the spirit of generosity), in Michael Foss’  book, Power Surge.  He uses Bible passages and real-life stories from his experiences as a Pastor to describe how the six marks can bring you closer to God.  We have 150 people who have committed to increase their faith by practicing the Six Marks together through the Six Marks of Discipleship Challenge (May 25-Nov. 16.)

We will have a rally with all coaches and team members on Sunday, June 29th in the MLK Seminar Room following morning worship.  Refreshments will be provided.  Come be a part of this life changing ministry by signing up today. For more information contact Pastor Virzola Law at law.virzola@theblvd.org or 901.272.5603.

SERVANTS IN ACTION!

On Saturday, May 31, the STEWARDSHIP BIBLE STUDY CLASS donated, assembled and delivered toiletries to the Barron Heights Transitional Center, a homeless shelter located at 1385 Lamar Avenue.  The class donated so many items for this project that many of the items were given in bulk.  “We were blessed to have another opportunity to serve,” said member, Margaret Coleman.  The Stewardship Bible study class is now deciding what will be their next service project.  The motto of the Barron Heights Transitional Center is “Serving Those Who Served”.

KROGER/SCHNUCKS’ CARDS – “LOAD BEFORE YOU SHOP!”

Are you loading before you shop?  If so, thank you for your support of your church’s Kroger/Schnucks’ fundraising project.   If not, what are you waiting for?  We need you to

help us to be successful!  This is an on-going fundraiser in which all Kroger/Schnucks shoppers can participate.  You only need our special MBCC Kroger/Schnucks’ card and a desire to help the church each time you go shopping for grocery items and gas.  We are still looking for those 160 members who are current Kroger/Schnucks’ card holders to partner with us to help meet some specific fundraising goals. So, if you want us to help “REMIND YOU” to load before you shop, then let Bettye Boone know by emailing her at boone.bettye@theblvd.org.  You’ll be placed on our reminder list and get some friendly reminders to “load before you shop.”

THE $20,000 SUNTRUST “MY CAUSE” CHALLENGE: YES, WE CAN

The SunTrust “My Cause” promotion will end on June 29, 2008.  We have already received from the last couple of promotions over $17,000 from SunTrust for our Discipletown Project.  This is outstanding and our children “THANK YOU!”  As Emeril says when he cooks certain dishes, let’s take it up a notch...BAM! Our new notch is $20,000.  For the last couple of weeks, we asked for 28 members to come forward to support the $20,000 SunTrust My Cause challenge. As of last Sunday, six (6) people have opened an account to support Discipletown as their cause. We are only 22 accounts short of meeting our goal.  We know there are 22 people remaining in the congregation that are able and willing to help meet this goal.  So, think about it and then decide to make “Discipletown Your Cause” by opening an account and completing all the requirements to redeem the $100.  You can sign-up for an account at the church each Sunday through June 22, 2008 or you can go to any local SunTrust Bank to open up a checking account for $25 with no monthly fees.  The requirements are simple as follows:

·                 Open a personal or business checking account and deposit $25 before June 29th

·                 Accept the Visa Check (Debit) card and use it to make a purchase – no minimum purchase amount required

·                  After your purchase, call 866.266.2802 or go online at www.suntrust.com/mycause then click “My Cause Redemption” to make your $100 redemption to Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church

We have met each target we set for this fundraiser and I know we will meet this latest challenge as well.  Therefore, those 23 members out there who are ready to help us meet the challenge COME ON DOWN – THE CAUSE IS RIGHT!   If you have any question, contact Bettye Boone at 901.272.5650.
