MISSISSIPPI BOULEVARD CHRISTIAN CHURCH

Dear Fellow Servant:

In the past two weeks, we have had one great celebration after another for our 90th Anniversary of Word, Worship and Work. I have received many positive emails, letters and verbal remarks (awesome, well done, exciting, love it, wonderful, do it again, etc.) from members and people in the community about our 90th celebration. My words to describe the celebration were “deeply moving”. I observed the children and the young at heart having a really good time and enjoying all the activities, food and fellowship at our community carnival. Our carnival definitely reached out beyond the walls of THE BLVD. Our Black Tie Gala attendance was extremely abundant (over 900 people in attendance) and the entertainment highlights included our very own, Actress Florence Roach whose dramatization of “The Occasion” definitely brought a smile to our faces; Jeffrey Murdock who gave an awesome rendition of “The Impossible Dream”, and Nuttin’ But Stringz who played their violins in their own special way creating a new melodious tune during their performance. Our remarkable worship services attendees received a soul searching question from Pastor Jackson’s sermon “Have You Worshiped Lately”. It was so good to see Pastor Jackson, the faces of the fifty years and above members, all of our former members and friends in the choir and pews. After worship, our tastefully decorated Fellowship Hall greeted us with sweet delicacies and fruit, just enough to keep us until we reached our dinner destinations. My personal thanks to all for coming out and celebrating with us. A special thank you to our Precious Stones donors and all the volunteers (great team work); this was a very special 90th Anniversary that we will never forget. Click here to view some of our photos.

Our celebration activities have ended, but the celebration continues until December 2012. Therefore, if you would like to be included in our 90th Anniversary Legacy Giving, contact Bettye Boone. Our Memoir Halls will also be on display until December 2012, or maybe longer.

Next week Thursday is Thanksgiving; as you plan your health-conscious meals, remember the holidays are just beginning. Our Family Life Center has some holiday focus exercise programs to help us through the holidays. Our Director, Helen Darling, is available to share more information with you. Also, the Church Offices will be closed next week Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25.

November 11 was Veterans’ Day and because of the extensive anniversary celebrations, we chose to honor our veterans this Sunday, November 20, at both campuses. Invite your veteran family members, friends or co-workers to worship with us this Sunday.

We often say “Great Things are Happening at THE BLVD” and rightly so; we serve a great God and He is greatly to be praised.

Praise is What I Do,

DR. FRANK A. THOMAS Senior Servant

STEWARDSHIP |

MONEY MATTERS

It’s become an all-too-familiar headline – lay-offs and furloughs, falling housing prices and rising consumer debt, declining retail sales and increasing costs of living. Money – and the lack of it – is a source of stress and frustration. And while people the world over are working to stem the global financial situation we’re in, folks at home are trying to gain some control over their own financial situations, too. The Bible teaches us that “the people perish because of a lack of knowledge.” Practicing positive, tried and true money management techniques – and learning how to recognize and avoid some “ripped from the headlines” consumer scams and rip-offs – can help you weather tough economic times. Begin today to educate yourself and your family about financial matters. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, created the website (Money Matters) to help you tackle some money issues head-on. Visit their website to learn more about managing your money and various scams designed to separate you from your money.
