Dear Fellow Servant,
Last week I had a wonderful trip with
the youth and youth leaders in Washington DC. There is nothing that
brings you to reality like spending time with
youth.
Sometimes I think I’ve really got it
together and am up-to-date on a few things; then I spend some
time with young people my daughter’s age or younger and I
realize just how far ahead they are in communication. Have you ever watched
one of them texting? They can text more
words a minute than many of us can speak! The wonderful thing
about it however is that they are fearless. They are not afraid to
move into the new.
Change for many of them is more exciting than
anything. No fear
is what allows them to dive into waters with no regards to
whether or not they have on the right gear, whether someone
will save them or if they can save themselves. I am not advocating by
any means that this is how we should live life. I am however saying
that there is something to be said about trust and
fearlessness; about taking chances, accepting change, moving
forward and living fully.
Our youth have the ability to come
together better than any other sector of the community for
common causes.
This Sunday at THE BLVD, our youth are participating in
and hosting a phenomenal worship experience called Unified
Kingdom. Children
and youth from all over the city and country will be at THE
BLVD to kick off a week of worship together. This
tear-down-the-walls event promises to be life-changing. There
is more information below in the Next Generation
Section.
Have you started reading the book yet
(Younger Next Year
by Chris Crowley & Henry S. Lodge, M.D.)? Let me know if it has
the effect on you that it has had on me. I love hearing from
you. I am on
Facebook now.
Technology is an area that peaks my interest and at the
same time can be overwhelming. Last week one of our
members wrote on my “wall” (Facebook term for putting a note
on my page) about how my sermons on getting fit have blessed
her life and her 73 year old mother’s life. It was a good note and
if I was not on Facebook, I may not have known so thank you
Ms. Garrison. I
am glad that you are my friend in Christ and on Facebook. Let’s move forward and
grow together because if we don’t our only option is to be
left behind.
See you
Sunday! |

Golfers turned out early on the warm, sunny and breezy
Saturday morning of April 25th for the 2nd Annual

held to highlight the success of this year’s fundraising
efforts benefiting the Ida Ballard Simon Memorial Scholarship
Fund. Cheryl Ballard and Linda Ballard Peete presented Lincoln

University,” said Cheryl Ballard. “This year, we are also
contributing a $500 dollar book scholarship to a 2009 City of
Memphis Public School graduating senior with plans to attend a
historically black college or trade school for the 2009/2010

UNIFIED
KINGDOM: TEAR DOWN THE WALLS
THE
BLVD Youth invite you to join in the endeavor to tear down the
walls that exist denominationally, socially, racially, and
theologically. Does God really care? Bring the Kingdom back
under one body by unifying the youth generation in prayer,
creating a safe refuge for the lost, fighting against
injustice and Tearing down the Walls! Click here for additional
information.
Since this is the
kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us
make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads
or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in
every detail of our lives. That means we will not compare
ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and
another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with
our lives. Each of us is an original. Galatians 5:25 –
