MISSISSIPPI BOULEVARD CHRISTIAN CHURCH

Dear Fellow Servant,

I believe the older I get the more sensitive I become changing seasons.  As a child, I welcomed summer not because of the weather, but because of the freedom it brought.  There were many liberties we enjoyed as children that have faded with age.  The health scares, sicknesses and diseases make us trade our liberties for fear. Although we in the Disciples of Christ believe that we must be prepared, we also know that we must not yield to sensationalism.  Our General Minister and President, Sharon E. Watkins, released a statement that I found encouraging with regards to H1N1 preparedness where she stated:

“As we strive to be a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world, it is important that we proclaim hope when people live in fear.  Likewise, as we seek to engage in ministry that meets the real needs of people in their day-to-day circumstances, we must take the advice of those trained in medicine, public health and health advocacy.  It is important that we combine common sense with our compassion for one another.  Preventing a crisis is as important in ministry as caretaking is in the midst of one.

You can read the entire letter by clicking here.  Also know that we, at THE BLVD care about your health and are taking necessary precautions to provide a safe environment for all.

Donnie McClurkin is coming back to THE BLVD for another spirit-filled evening during our Holidays at THE BLVD Celebration on December 13th.  Tickets go on sale this Sunday at both locations.  This year we are also trying something new with Optional Packages that include valet parking, reserved seating and some other perks. There are a limited number of these packages so get your tickets early.

We are also gearing up for our Annual Founder’s Day celebration.  Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church will recognize 88 years in this community!  What a wonderful blessing.  88 Years and Still Standing! Sunday, November 1st, we will come together as one body at THE BLVD Midtown and celebrate.  Our special guest artist on Founder’s Day is a musical genius, David Frazier.  If you don’t know his name you know his music.  He is the man holding the pen for several top gospel hits including today’s church anthem, I Need You To Survive and many more.  Join us on Founder’s Day!

This Sunday, we have a special treat for you in the form of a visionary and man of God who is no stranger to THE BLVD, the Reverend Dr. Claude Alexander, Jr.  Dr. Alexander is the senior pastor of University Park Baptist Church (also known as The Park), an 8000+ member church in Charlotte, North Carolina.  They are one church in three locations.  Sound familiar?  He is a wonderful and anointed preacher of the Gospel with a message that is broadcast nationally on The Word Network, The Inspiration Network and XM Radio.  Last year, he was consecrated as a Bishop and I hope you are ready for the word he will bring in both locations of THE BLVD this Sunday.

I am told that traditionally, we have a lower turnout on Sundays that “the Pastor” isn’t preaching.  I would like to believe that we are not followers of man, but of God and that we will forsake not assembling together.  Come out and let’s show our guest preacher, Bishop Claude Alexander, our support and receive the powerful word that will bless you individually and us as a body.

Tell us what you think about our
