THE SIX MARKS OF DISCIPLESHIP: WHERE ARE YOU?

How are things going in your practice of the marks of discipleship? Are you aware of the Six Marks and what they are? Do you know why THE BLVD has committed to a six month Spiritual Fitness Challenge as we learn more about these spiritual benchmarks? We at THE BLVD first read about the Six Marks of Discipleship in Michael Foss’ book, Power Surge. He uses Bible passages and real-life stories from his experiences as a Pastor to describe how the Six Marks can bring you closer to God. 150 people have committed to increase their faith by taking the Six Marks of Discipleship Challenge through November 16th. For more information email Pastor Virzola Law (901.272.5603).

MUSIC MINISTRY OPEN HOUSE

The MBCC Music Ministry will host an Open House on the following Sundays: August 31st, September 7th, and September 14th. Music Ministry representatives will be available in the bookstore lobby to answer questions relating to membership. For additional information, contact the Music Ministry office at 901.272.5614.

RUNNING FOR CHARITY

Once again, runners from THE BLVD - Tara Alexander, JoAnn Boyd, Shirley Harris, Renee Horne, Angela Jones, Jayna Kelly, Edith Kelly-Green, Linda Sessoms and Monice Tate - recently supported community charities while enhancing their health. These ladies ran in the Gibson Guitar 5K and/or the St. Jude/Comcast Firecracker 5K. As usual, it was hot and the run was tough, but it was definitely for good causes. Running is an excellent way to stay fit and lose weight as well as support charitable organizations of your choice.

STEWARDSHIP|

KROGER/SCHNUCKS FUNDRAISING ACTIVITY

In last week’s E-news we indicated that we had raised $3,500 from the combined Kroger and Schnucks’ re-loadable card fundraising activities. We thank you for your faithfulness in loading and re-loading your Kroger and Schnucks’ cards. This activity has been underway for seven (7) months with us averaging about $500 per month. We believe with your help and assistance, we can raise this monthly amount to $800 or more per month. We believe we can accomplish this goal through our combined efforts by:

v Continuing to believe God for the success of this program.

v Contacting current cardholders using email or regular mail to remind them to take their card with them and load the card before shopping.

v Issuing cards to those who do not have them.

v Issuing new cards to current cardholders whose current card is no longer usable

v Re-emphasizing the importance of this fundraiser to members of the congregation

This fundraising activity benefits the ministries of our future leaders, children and youth. Whatever we can do today to help their tomorrow is effort worth doing. Therefore, we believe that with the help of God and the continued faithfulness of our congregation, the current $500 per month will be increased $800 and more. If you do not have a MBCC authorized Kroger or Schnucks’ card, get one on Sunday or come by the church during the week to get your card so you can start loading and re-loading your card. Thanks again for your support!

$20,000 CHALLENGE – KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK – WE ARE GETTING THERE

Thank you so much for coming forward to meet our $20,000 “My Cause” challenge. One more person came forward so we are now down to needing only nine (9) people to make this goal a reality for our children and youth programs. We are definitely getting close.

So, again, if you have not joined in on the fun, you still have time to do so. Please visit our SunTrust Bank table on Sunday to complete an application for a checking account or business account or you can visit any SunTrust bank to open an account. The Lord continues to bless us so we know the goal is reachable and achievable. So join with other MBCC members who have opened accounts to make our children and youth ministries their cause. The process is simple. The rewards are great!

NEXT GENERATION |

OUR CHILDREN. OUR YOUTH, OUR FUTURE

The Children’s Ministry and Middle School Ministry needs new and excited teachers and volunteers for school year 2008–2009. Teachers will teach one Sunday and two Wednesday nights per month. Teacher/Volunteer training is scheduled for Saturday, August 16th from 10AM–12PM in the MLK Seminar Room. Regular classes will resume on Sunday, September 7th. Complete the form in Sunday’s bulletin and give it to an Usher or leave it at the Security Desk. For additional information, email Minister Carla Norton (901.272.5631).

NEW YOUTH LEADERSHIP MEETINGS SCHEDULE

In an effort to help conserve travel expenses during the week and develop a more Biblically based youth ministry, student leadership of the MBCC Youth Department will NOW have official leadership meetings on Sunday Morning as part of their regularly scheduled Bible Study at 8:30AM in Room 08A. In fact, all high school youth from 9th to 12th grade are welcome and expected, however, Bible Study & Leadership meetings on Sunday are mandatory to all youth leaders. In the event youth need more time to prepare for ministry activities such as skits, etc., they may be asked to come on another day such as Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday as needed.

RITES OF PASSAGE (ROP): YOUNG MEN AND ADULT MALE MENTORS

Rites Of Passage for ALL Middle School and High School age young men is in full gear. The registration fee is only $25.00, however, do not let the fee keep you from registering and attending. No young man will be left behind! We will convene Saturday, August 23rd, 9AM–12PM in the MLK Seminar Room. We need the presence of both Adult Males as well as past ROP participants to join in this years ROP process as Mentors and Guide Brothers respectively.

PEE-WEE DISCIPLES

Our “Pee Wee Disciples” nursery (ages 6 weeks to 5 years) is open every Sunday from 7AM – 2PM, and every Wednesday from 6:30PM – 8PM during our Midweek service. The Nursery is a wonderful environment for your child to learn and grow in while you enjoy worship service.
