MISSISSIPPI BOULEVARD CHRISTIAN CHURCH |
| |
|
Dear
Church Servant:
On Sunday, we had a memorable day as
we acknowledged and celebrated as a family our 87th
church birthday (Founders’ Day) and our newly elected
President of United States of America, Barack Obama. We had a
special duet dance, songs like “Never Would Have Made It” by
Marvin Sapp; and our awesome Banners graced our sanctuary
aisles with honor to our God.
Our Founders’ Day worship service was
a historical moment to celebrate the Founders of Mississippi
Boulevard Christian Church, and our ancestors’ love and
sacrifices that laid the foundation for us to achieve
greatness today. God kept His promise to His servant David,
our ancestors and founders. Blessed be the Name of the Lord
God who brought us out of slave ships with chains on our
bodies and lifted us so everybody would have to get up and
look at the intelligence, the smarts, and the integrity of
Barack Hussein Obama, the 44th President Elect of
United States of America. It had to be God. I thanked God for
His faithfulness and the new reality we have walked into.
Please continue to pray for our President Elect as he
transitions into the White House, yes, the White House, to God
Be The Glory.
“DECISION 2008: IN ______
WE TRUST”
It is my prayer that this sermon
series, “Decision 2008: In ___
(you
fill in the blank) We Trust,” will
help you make a very important decision in 2008 to choose to
live by God’s
economy rather than the world’s economy
as you navigate and survive through
this devastating economic maze. I believe if you decide
to live by God’s
economy principles (pay God 10%
in tithes, pay yourself 10% for saving and investing, and live
off the remaining 80%), your life will be truly
transformed. Join us and bring a friend this Sunday at 10:00AM
as we continue our “Decision 2008: In ___ We
Trust”
series.
MBCC FINANCIAL
U
This week is the third class, but
the second session of “Managing Your
Finances” from
9:00AM to 12 Noon in Room 05A. If you missed the first session, this
is your opportunity to take this class. Our Financial
“U” University is offered to
our members and the community. Our
classes will assist participants in understanding, improving
and managing their finances (click here to read some of
the attendee’s feedback). We are excited
about what God is doing to help MBCC manage during these very
critical economic times and want to share how our members and
others can do the same. You may sign up for classes by
clicking here, by emailing Bettye
Boone, or calling 901.272.5650 for additional
information. For course descriptions,
locations and other pertinent information, please click

MIDWEEK

“MBCC: the family that
preys prays together” is our present series. This
series has been planned just for us as we continue to face the
financial challenges of our economy. Come to Midweek services,
release the daily tasks of life as you worship God, and study
His word. See you on Wednesday evenings at 7:00PM in the MLK
Seminar Room to hear what God has to say to us through this
series.

MBCC CHO
DIABETES SEMINAR
Do you or anyone in your family have diabetes? Do
you know anyone with diabetes? African Americans are twice as
likely as whites of similar ages to develop diabetes, so
chances are you answered “yes” to these questions. In
fact, 3.7 million or 14.7% of all non-Hispanic Blacks ages 20
and older have diagnosed and undiagnosed diabetes. Diabetes,
also called “Sugar” is a disease in which blood sugar levels
are too high. Over time, having too much sugar in the blood
can lead to serious complications and premature
death. But, people with diabetes can take steps to
control the disease and lower the risk of complications.
(Resources: National Diabetes Education Program and
National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney
Diseases)
Please join the CHO in the FELLOWSHIP HALL for a
Diabetes Seminar on Saturday, November 15th, 9AM –
12PM. It will make a difference in your life. You will
receive lots of information and freebies while you learn all
about diabetes. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Mohammad
Qureshi, MD, a board certified Endocrinologist and a diabetes
researcher. Plus, a Diabetes Educator will share her personal
experiences living with diabetes, a Diabetes Nutritionist will
discuss ways to make wise food choices and a team will be on
hand to perform sugar testing and provide information on
obtaining medications and testing supplies. Please
complete the registration form and leave it in the CIC or
register in person in the Bellevue or CIC lobby
areas. The deadline for registration is Monday, November
10th. Don’t miss this valuable health educational
program!
FLU SHOTS
Flu shots will be available in the Montgomery lobby on Saturday,
November 15, 2008 from 8:00AM – 3:00PM. The cost is $20. You
may sign up Sunday in the Church Information Center. The shot is free for
persons with Medicare Part B.
SICKLE CELL
DISEASE AWARENESS: BLOOD
DRIVE
As you are aware, we have selected Sickle Cell Disease
Awareness as our December 14th Christmas Concert’s
charitable cause. Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited blood
disorder that primarily affects African-Americans. In fact, 8%
of the African-American population carries the sickle cell
gene with 1 in 400 incidence of sickle cell anemia occurring
at birth. Many people are not aware that they carry the trait
and without proper testing and education may pass this trait
or the disease on to their children. This is a disease that
affects US.
November 23rd is Sickle Cell Awareness
Sunday. In an effort to educate our congregation and support
the foundations working in the area of Sickle Cell Awareness,
we are asking members of our congregation to come prepared to
participate in the Sickle
Cell Awareness Blood Drive from 8:00AM – 2:00PM in the
Fellowship Hall.
Pre-registration is not required. Additional
information about the disease will be made available. One of
the best ways to share our faith is to give to others. For
additional information about Sickle Cell Awareness Sunday and
how you can help, please email Bettye Boone or call 901.272.5650.

effort to promote better health in urban communities across
the country, the National Urban League and Walgreen's Take
Care Health Tour bus will visit 22 urban communities across
the country as part of an 11-month mobile health
