“SAY WHAT YOU NEED TO SAY”

This Sunday, I will be targeting my sermon series to women. “Say What You Need to Say” will teach you how to be in right relationship with God so that we can truly be family to others even if they are not family to you. This, in turn, helps make our relationships whole. Don’t forget to invite your relatives, friends, neighbors and co-workers to share in this journey. I’ll be looking for you.

CHURCH-WIDE BIBLE STUDY

Our Wednesday Night Worship continues in February with a new teaching series: "Sex and the City." Join me and Pastor Janae Pitts each Wednesday as we teach relevant and practical principles about our sexuality and the myths that the secular society has created regarding it. God is concerned with our spirits and our bodies, come and see what the Bible says about them both! If you are not in a Bible Study, click here for a list of our Christian Education opportunities.

PREPARING FOR LENT

The Lenten Season (Feb. 25-April 12) is upon us, and it is time to prepare for the transformation God has for you this year.  Getting ready for Lent involves some thinking, praying, and setting the stage for the changes that we hope to introduce into our lives in the weeks ahead. Let's even imagine that God is going to help transform our lives, with greater freedom, greater joy, deeper desires for love and service.

If you have a spouse, children, some close friends, or distant e-mail companions, you can begin now to talk about how you will support each other in this Lenten journey. Ash Wednesday is a great place to start with our planning.  "What are we going to eat?"  We shouldn't be embarrassed if we really haven't fasted in a long time, or perhaps ever before.  We can plan to intentionally have only one full meal on Ash Wednesday.  We can make that meal very meaningful and symbolic. Getting ready, means getting your house ready, too.  And, it can mean lots of choices. What are you going to give up so you can take on a spiritual discipline?  What changes are you willing to make to grow closer to God?  What time are you willing to set aside to deepen your walk with Jesus? These questions can help you get started.

We will have a weekly Lenten Guide, “Journey with Jesus,” starting Ash Wednesday, February 25th.  Be sure to get a copy to guide you through the Lenten Season.

THE HEART TRUTH

The Heart Truth is that heart disease is the #1 killer of American women. In fact, one in four women die of heart disease, but heart disease can also lead to disability and a significantly decreased quality of life. Unfortunately, most women don't know The Heart Truth. Although significant progress has been made increasing awareness among women from 34% in 2000 to 57% in 2006, most women fail to make the connection between risk factors and their personal risk of developing heart disease. The Heart Truth is that women don't take their risk of heart disease seriously or personally. Women often fail to make the connection between risk factors, such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol, and their own chance of developing heart disease. Now is the time to make wise choices; exercise over sitting, choose baked over fried foods, limit salt and take meds as prescribed. The CHO encourages everyone to unite in this life-saving awareness movement by showing off a favorite red dress, shirt, or tie, or red dress pin. For more information, visit the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute web site.
