MISSISSIPPI BOULEVARD CHRISTIAN CHURCH

Dear Fellow Servant,

I’m back! Africa is always a moving and relaxing experience for me. I cannot tell you how wonderful it was to have this time away with my family to just exhale. As happy as I was to be there, I am overjoyed to be home with you.

Before I get into the great things happening at THE BLVD, I have to remind you that Daylight Savings Time begins this Sunday morning, March 14! Please remember to Spring Forward meaning set your clocks forward by one hour before you go to bed Saturday night so that you are on time for worship Sunday morning.

This week we passed the halfway mark of our 40 Days of Love journey.  In this second half of the journey we have a few events planned that involve you.  Please put these on your calendar:

·         March 14 - This Sunday is Justice Awareness.  We are showing our support for Justice by wearing white or white accents.

·         March 21 – We are renewing our commitment to love.  This commitment can be to loving another person, yourself or to loving God.

·         March 28Child Abuse Awareness Sunday.  We are showing our support by donning blue or blue accents.

·         March 29 thru April 3Church Fast

We culminate our journey on Easter Sunday, April 4.  Although the Daily Dares in the journal end on March 25, the back of the journal gives you daily scriptures to read and meditate on until Easter.  If you don’t have a journal, you can also follow us on THE BLVD (Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church) Facebook page where we upload the daily dares every day.  With so many churches in Memphis having to make door-closing decisions, it is very important that we as a church family fast and pray for the health of THE BLVD.  A healthy church grows and ministers to the community.  A healthy church is a servant church.

I am closing this week’s note with a call to action for you.  At THE BLVD we do a lot of wonderful things with excellence.  One of those wonderfully excellent things is our annual production of Umoja which is about a month away.  For those three days (April 23 -25), our Midtown pulpit is transformed into a Broadway-style production stage filled with amazing singers, dancers and actors.  With all of this excellence, we want the whole city…the region to come and experience THE BLVD. We need your help.  First, I need you to commit to purchasing tickets and then to spreading the word about Umoja 2010 to friends and family so they can also experience this amazing production.  Tickets are available during business hours at the Midtown Campus all week and on Sundays at both locations. Also pick up some of our playbills and business cards to distribute.  Umoja is our production and we all should take part in making it a success.

Don’t forget to listen to 15 Minutes of Faith with Dr. Frank Anthony Thomas, Wednesdays on 95.7 at 6pm. I really want to hear from you.  Just in case you missed last week’s program, you can hear the replay weekly. Help me make this radio program the best that it can be.

See you Sunday.

DR. FRANK A. THOMAS Senior Servant

SEASON OF LENT

As the Community of Faith, we are practicing “40 Days of Love” (February 17 – April 4). What will you sacrifice in order to practice the spiritual discipline, Love? What changes are you willing to make in order to grow closer to God? How much time will you set aside daily to deepen your walk with Jesus? In order to connect with the Sermon Series, “40 Days of Love,” included are some suggestions to assist you in your journey of “love” during Lent. Click here for more information.

The DDI is a Real Estate Development Training Course consisting of a combination of course study and real life Project Development. Additional goals of the DDI are to increase the number of private and public partnerships attacking blight throughout the City of Memphis, and to become the “model” program for increasing the presence of Minorities and Women in Real Estate Development. Monday, March 15 is the deadline for applications. Click here for course overview and application form. Flyers are available in THE BLVD Midtown CIC.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS

Domestic violence touches the lives of Americans of all ages, leaving a devastating impact on women, men and children of every background and circumstance. A family's home becomes a place of fear, hopelessness and desperation when a woman is battered by her partner, a child witnesses the abuse of a loved one, or a person is victimized by family members. Since the 1994 passage of the landmark Violence Against Women Act, championed by then Senator Joe Biden, our nation has strengthened its response to this crime and increased services for victims. Still, far too many people and their families in this country and around the world are affected by domestic violence. In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness, we encourage the congregation to wear purple on Sunday, March 7 in support of ending domestic violence.
