Dear
Fellow Servant,
I
met Rosa Parks Wednesday night through the eyes of Nikki
Giovanni. If you were not at THE BLVD for the Dr. Barbara A.
Holmes Lecture series with guest speaker Dr. Nikki Giovanni,
you absolutely missed an opportunity to hear the voice of an
African American legend. I may not agree with every statement
she made, however I admire and respect her courage to make
them and enjoyed having her in our presence at THE
BLVD.
Last
Sunday we brought our first 2010 sermon series, God’s Game
Plan, to a close. Befittingly, the Saints won the Superbowl!
Saints won because that’s what saints do. This Sunday, we
enter into our next series, 40 Days of Love, and
I am truly excited about it. You seem to be excited as well
because we are almost out of journals. The journals are a
daily exercise in loving one other person in your life who may
need a little extra dose of Christian care. There is a very
limited supply left so if you did not get yours last week,
don’t miss your opportunity this week. You are also invited to
join the Facebook Fan
Page where you can get daily information about the
journey, interact with others who are on the journey and
connect with us on a first-to-know basis about the great
things that are happening at THE BLVD. Along with the journals
we are bringing awareness to several causes that touch our
lives during the 40 Days of Love journey. Generally there is a
support ribbon for a cause. We are wearing support colors for the
causes. Sunday, February 14, we spotlight heart disease, HIV and
AIDS. You are invited to join us by wearing something red
in your attire this week. The full schedule is listed below in
eNews.
This
Sunday is also Valentine’s Day and we have a treat for you at
both our Midtown location and our East location. Our 8:30am East Campus
will have Grammy nominated gospel artist, Sheri Jones – Moffett
as the guest musician. Her current song from her first solo
release, Renewed, is one of the most popular songs played on
gospel radio today. At our 10:00am Midtown
Campus we have gospel great, Richard Smallwood. I
cannot wait to hear Total Praise along with some of his other
songs.
Can
you believe it is time to start gearing up for Umoja 2010? Three
days of excitement are planned for this year from Friday, April 23 through
Sunday, April 25. Count this as your first Save-the-date
notice. As we move forward with the plans we will have more
information for you on tickets, sponsorships and group
purchases.
If
you have not yet done so, please remember to tune in to 15 Minutes of Faith with
Dr. Frank Anthony Thomas every Wednesday from 6:00 –
6:15pm on 95.7fm. Invite your friends and family to
listen. Come out for Mid-Week Service on Wednesdays at 7:00pm.
We are currently going through a series called Fireproof Your
Life. It’s a great series and everyone seems to be enjoying
it. If you can’t make it on Wednesdays or on Sunday, you can
always stream live on the internet at our website (www.theblvd.org) by clicking the
Stream Live button.
See
You Sunday.

PREPARING FOR
LENT
The Lenten
Season (February 17 – April 4) is upon us, and it is time to
prepare for the transformation God has for you this year.
Preparing for Lent involves thinking, praying and preparing
your heart and schedules to take the journey with Christ and
the Christian Community. If you have family (spouse,
children), close friends, or distant email companions, you can
begin sharing how you will support each other in the Lenten
Journey. You may want to consider the following questions as
you begin: What will
you sacrifice in order to practice one of the spiritual
disciplines? What changes are you willing to make in order to
grow closer to God? How much time will you set
aside daily to deepen your walk with Jesus? “40 Days of
Love,” a weekly guide to assist you in the Lenten Journey,
will be available by February 14th. Ash Wednesday
Midweek Service on February 17th is a great time to
start your plan.
40 DAYS OF LOVE
JOURNAL
The Word of God says,
“Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39 – NIV).
Somewhere between reading the Word and obeying the Word, we
allow life to override our Christian responsibility which is
to love. February 14 – March 25 (40 days), THE BLVD family
will focus on spreading God’s Love using a “Forty Days of Love
Journal” of daily scripture readings. The Journal will
enable us to record our personal growth and transformation,
during Pastor Frank’s “Forty Days of
Love” preaching series and the Lenten Season (February
17 – April 4). Journals will be available following Sunday
worship at the sign up table in THE BLVD Midtown Montgomery
Street Lobby. In
addition to the Journal, we are impelled to take note of
specific issues that challenge our society. In response, we
ask the congregation to support the awareness of these
challenges by wearing the color that represents the area of
emphasis listed below: |
