MISSISSIPPI BOULEVARD CHRISTIAN CHURCH

Dear Fellow Servant:

Our Founders’ Day activities culminate this weekend for 90 years of service to God. I am looking forward to everything that has been planned and know we will have a great time. A component of our celebration that received great attention is our photographs in the halls surrounding the Sanctuary that display our rich church history. Please take a moment to view our photographs which give a glimpse of our past and our present. We have received many comments from members on how it is a wonderful display of our history.

Our Black Tie Gala is this evening, Friday, November 11, and I am looking forward to seeing everyone who has planned to attend. The doors open at 6:00PM and the program will begin at 7:00PM. You do not want to be late for this historical event. Click here for directions.

Our Founders’ Day Services, Sunday, November 13, will be held at our Midtown campus only at 7:45AM and 10:00AM. Dr. Alvin O’Neal Jackson will be our guest preacher; and some of our favorite musical guests will be with us for both services. Please watch our informational video for special instructions regarding our Founders’ Day weekend (please click here). When you arrive on Sunday, I am asking you to follow the directions of the brotherhood and ushers. We are expecting large attendance at both services and would like to expedite parking and seating appropriately and timely for all. Please be courteous to our guests as we would love for them to come back to visit us or join our church family. Remember, I have asked for all Bible Study classes to be cancelled this Sunday.

I express my gratitude to all men and women who have served and are serving our country. You play a very vital part of the freedom we all enjoy. Our Founders’ Day Order of Worship is extensive; therefore, we will honor our veterans on Sunday, November 20 at both campus worship services. If you are a veteran and you have not completed an “Honoring Veterans” insert, you may pick up one in the CIC today to complete and give to the Receptionist. Thank you for serving.

It is time to support our Angel Tree and Dove Tree. Each year, we make a special effort to give to children of incarcerated parents (Angel Tree) and to selected programs to support others in need (Dove Tree). I am asking our men to make a $25.00 donation to Angel Tree, and everyone to support our Dove Tree until all Doves have been adopted. Click here to view the video.

Calling all my men! Our Men’s Ministry will be hosting a Men’s Breakfast on Saturday, November 19, at 8:30AM in our Fellowship Hall. Our guest speaker will be the Grizzlies Head Coach, Lionel Hollins. We will also have some special guests from other area churches. I am counting on all BLVD men to bring a man or boy (father, son, uncle, nephew, little brother, buddy, etc.) to our breakfast with Coach Hollins. This will be a great time of food, fun and fellowship; so come out to breakfast for a minimal cost of $5.00 per person. Contact Minister Chris Watson for more information.

This weekend will be remembered in our archives for many years. We have planned, we have hosted, we will worship and praise God for our many blessings, and continue to serve Him. Again, I appreciate everyone who helped to make this 90th Anniversary so outstanding, to all a job well done. As we close out our celebration, please join us immediately following the 10:00AM worship service for a reception in the Fellowship Hall. Enjoy the weekend. Great things are happening at THE BLVD!

With a Servant’s Heart,

DR. FRANK A. THOMAS Senior Servant

STEWARDSHIP |

MONEY MATTERS

It’s become an all-too-familiar headline – lay-offs and furloughs, falling housing prices and rising consumer debt, declining retail sales and increasing costs of living. Money – and the lack of it – is a source of stress and frustration. And while people the world over are working to stem the global financial situation we’re in, folks at home are trying to gain some control over their own financial situations, too. The Bible teaches us that “the people perish because of a lack of knowledge.” Practicing positive, tried and true money management techniques – and learning how to recognize and avoid some “ripped from the headlines” consumer scams and rip-offs – can help you weather tough economic times. Begin today to educate yourself and your family about financial matters. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, created the website (Money Matters) to help you tackle some money issues head-on. Visit their website to learn more about managing your money and various scams designed to separate you from your money.
