MISSISSIPPI BOULEVARD CHRISTIAN CHURCH

Dear Fellow Servants,

Memphis will be home to the National Convocation’s 20th Biennial Event! The Convocation is only three short weeks away. Have you registered? If not, click here to download and complete the registration form (PDF). As the current Vice President of the National Convocation, I solicit your support and encourage you to REGISTER TODAY!!! This year’s session will feature outstanding music, dynamic preaching, and opportunities to learn and sharpen your ministry skills. THE BLVD is one of the host churches. So, it is our responsibility to register, attend and give a warm, hospitable welcome to our extended Disciple of Christ (DOC) family and friends. We’ll have five days of fun, fellowship and worship, as well as opportunities to learn how we can be better disciples of Christ. Click here for the full schedule of events.

I pray you will join us on Sunday, July 13th at 10 a.m. for heart-felt worship, inspirational teaching, and a warm, welcoming connection with THE BLVD family. We are blessed to have producer, composer and musician, Winston Stewart. Mr. Stewart is also minister of music for Community of Faith Christian Church. He will bless us with music from his new CD project, "A Condition of the Heart." As a former member of the renowned R&B group, The Bar-Kays and performing concerts at sold-out coliseums, Mr. Stewart left it all behind in the early 90’s. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and has since dedicated his career to Gospel music.

Remember your casual attire for the month of July. Our worship services will be abbreviated—no more than 1˝ hours in length. Don’t forget that THE BLVD needs your continued financial support throughout the summer months.

Once again, here are our July Summer Sabbath hours of operation:  Monday through Thursday – No ministry related meetings or activities will be held at the church after 5 p.m.  Friday – No ministry related meetings or activities held after 4 p.m. No Midweek services will be held during the month of July.

God delights in you and has an incredible plan for your life…Come discover it at THE BLVD!

Mark you calendars for important activities and service opportunities below! Please forward our eNews to your family and friends so that they are aware of what’s happening at THE BLVD. Also, invite them to spend Sunday with you in worship service.

With a Servant’s Heart,

Pastor Frank

MIDWEEK WORSHIP SUMMER SABBATH

Wednesday Midweek Services will be suspended for the month of July in honor of the seventh month Sabbath of rest and reflection. For more information, contact Pastor Christopher Michael Jones at jones.christopher@theblvd.org or 901.272.5604.

THE SIX MARKS OF DISCIPLESHIP: WHERE ARE YOU?

How are things going in your practice of the marks of discipleship? Are you aware of the six marks and what they are? Do you know why The BLVD has committed to a Six month Spiritual Fitness Challenge as we learn more about these spiritual benchmarks?  We at The BLVD first read about the Six Marks of Discipleship (daily prayer, weekly worship, Bible reading, Christian service, relationships that encourage spiritual growth, and giving in the spirit of generosity), in Michael Foss’ book, Power Surge. He uses Bible passages and real-life stories from his experiences as a Pastor to describe how the Six Marks can bring you closer to God. One hundred fifty people have committed to increase their faith by taking the Six Marks of Discipleship Challenge through November 16, 2008. For more information contact Pastor Virzola Law at law.virzola@theblvd.org or 901.272.5603.

IT’S TIME FOLKS, TO SAVE, SAVE, SAVE

As you know our economy is going through tremendous change. We are experiencing high unemployment, higher gas, food, and energy prices coupled with a high percentage of personal and business bankruptcies’ due to debt. Whether your debt is due to poor decisions concerning credit cards, a medical emergency, unemployment over a period of time, or other financial crises, it is now time for us to begin to determine how we can pay off our debts and save for emergencies and for our future. Beginning this week and over the next few weeks, we will begin to provide tidbits of information to help you review your own financial situation so you can make good decisions about debt management and savings. This first article is a New Release from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) reminding Americans to save their Economic Stimulus check to compound the benefit for the future. Go to http://mbccmemphis.org/enews/CPAs_Save.pdf for greater detail. If the nation’s organization of CPA’s are telling us to save our economic stimulus check to compound the benefit, it is worth considering. Next week, we will take a look at financial goal setting and planning.
