MISSISSIPPI BOULEVARD CHRISTIAN CHURCH

Dear Fellow Servant,

Fall is here!  The weather is changing and the record-breaking temperature days of summer have cooled and turned into what we in the South call football and fair weather. With football you are on your own but we have a fair planned for the entire family this Saturday, October 2 right here on the grounds of THE BLVD Midtown. The Community Care-A-Soul is not only an opportunity for you to come out and have fun with your church family, it is also an opportunity for us to show love and care to our neighbors in the Midtown community. Please plan to stop by during the day.  The activities begin at 8:30AM with a walk to bring awareness to homelessness by the Community Alliance for the Homeless. At 10:00AM, Baptist Operation Outreach in conjunction with Memphis Healthy Churches is sponsoring a health fair to make sure you are in your best shape. Then at 11:00AM the Community Care-A-Soul kicks off with free food, entertainment, games, prizes and activities for everyone. I will be out early and I hope to see you there. Be sure and park on the Montgomery side of the church because the carnival is on the Bellevue side and it will be blocked to thru traffic.

Sunday, October 3, we close out the Baggage Check series. I sincerely hope it has been a blessing to you. One thing is true: we all have baggage. No matter how rich, poor, educated, fit or famous we are, we have it. The saving grace for Christians is that we also have a God who can handle whatever baggage we carry on our own. Come to either THE BLVD East at 8:30AM or THE BLVD Midtown at 10:00AM and plan to leave your baggage at the altar.

The following Sunday, October 10, is a Sunday of celebration! It’s what we affectionately call Pink Sunday, which is the Sunday we celebrate victory over cancer. It started specifically targeting breast cancer but we know that cancer of all types need to be defeated. We are asking all of you who have proclaimed the victory over this dreadful disease, whether you have been diagnosed as cancer-free or you are by faith claiming it, to send a high resolution photo and either the number of years you have been cancer-free or the number of years that you have survived to our Marketing & Communications Dept via email. On Pink Sunday we will celebrate the survivor in you!

If I had to pick a pastor to preach a word that will encourage and ignite the fire, I can tell you that Bishop Vashti McKenzie is the one or as the youth today say, “she is the truth”. Bishop McKenzie will be bringing the word at both locations on Pink Sunday. Make it your business to be at THE BLVD for worship Sunday October 10 because there will be a blessing with your name on it!

Before I close today’s letter, I want to commend Pastor Reggie Bell for the awesome work he is doing with Wednesday Night Worship. I am overjoyed that more and more of you are coming out and taking part in this worship experience. The current series is The Gospel According Madea and it is a great one. Come out each Wednesday in October at 7:00PM. Don’t forget you can watch us live every Sunday at 10:00AM and Wednesday at 7:00PM at www.theblvd.org.

Finally, I invite you to come and celebrate Preaching With Sacred Fire, my newest book at my next book signing at THE BLVD, Sunday October 17. I am signing copies at THE BLVD East before worship at 8:00AM. I am hosting a book signing the same day at THE BLVD Midtown at 12:15PM. Copies of Preaching With Sacred Fire are available now in bookstores around the city and in our own MBCC bookstore as well as online. You can also visit my website www.preachingwithsacredfire.com for all of the details and information about the book including future events across the country.

Purchase your copy by Sunday October 10 and get it Fast Track signed. This means that Sunday, October 17 your book will be waiting for you already signed and inscribed.

I went a little long this week only because there are so many great things happening and I, for one, am glad about it!

God bless you. I love you and I hope to see you Sunday!
